The team reached a strong total of 316 by the end of day 1 and still has 6 wickets in hand. The bowling attack of Uttar Pradesh, led by Praveen Kumar, failed miserably as even though they got wickets, they failed to restrict the opponent from scoring. The most successful bowler of the innings has been Kuldeep Yadav with his 3 wickets. Ankit Rajpoot and Piyush Chawla got a wicket each.

Railways are no longer the force they used to be at the turn of the millennium. They received a hammering against Punjab at Mohali, who piled up a humongous 604 for 5 (four men scored hundreds) before Siddarth Kaul, Brainder Sran, and Varun Khanna bowled Punjab to a win by an innings and 126 runs. Railways had their moments when Saurabh Wakaskar (69) and Ashish Singh (90) added 150 for the opening stand in the first innings, but from there they were bowled out for 196. Arindam Ghosh (98) was the only one to put up some resistance in the second innings.
