Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the second One-Day International (ODI) between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday. This is Suraj Choudhari, and I shall be presenting the you the updates from the day’s play. After their series win over Ireland in the preceding three-match series, Zimbabwe will be confident of imposing themselves on Afghanistan. In line with general expectations, Zimbabwe scored a thumping eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in the first ODI with the Zimbabwean bowling running through their batting. Afghanistan with this victory have now squared the five-match ODI series by 1-1 and both the teams will now look to take it to the third ODI on Tuesday at Bulawayo. It was a terrific all-round display from Afghanistan and have done reasonably well to make a comeback after losing the first game by a huge margin.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 213 all out (Target 272)| Overs 46.4|  Wickets have fallen in aplenty for Zimbabwe as they have pretty much lost their way and with it the game. First Chigumbura then Jongwe and later Wellington Masakadza were dismissed by the pumped Afghanistani bowlers. Aftab Alam picked couple of the three dismissed and in the end centurion Mohammad Nabi sealed the game for Afghanistan with the run out of John Nyumbu.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 198/6 (Target 272)| Overs 44| BATSMEN: Elton Chigumbura 24(52), Luke Jongwe 36(27): Luke Jongwe has decided to give this challenge his best shot and has taken on the Afghanistani bowlers. He’s gone ballistic and have accelerated the Zimbabwean innings. If he stays there till the end, Zimbabwe will surely go home with a win. With 74 more runs required from 36 deliveries and Jongwe at the crease, expect some twist and turn.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 164/6 (Target 272)| Overs 40| BATSMEN: Elton Chigumbura 15(42), Luke Jongwe 12(13): A victory seems to be a distant dream for Zimbabwe as they run-rate has climbed up to newer heights. Chigumbura is struggling to get those odd boundaries and the current pair is not contributing enough as per the required rate. They need another 108 runs from 10 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Afghanistani bowlers have done pretty well to contain the batsmen and at the same time chipped wickets too. A victory for them is on the cards.

Another one bites the dust and they are six men down. They now need 129 runs from 90 deliveries. Chigumbura has not rotated enough strike and have to come up with some exceptional and miraculous performance to carry his team over the line.  OUT! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 124/5 (Target 272)| Overs 30| BATSMEN: Elton Chigumbura, Tendai Chisoro : Afghanistan have made a strong comeback into the game and chipped three key wickets in the form of  Tinotenda Mutombodzi, Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza. Amir Hamza and Samiullah Shenwari have done the job for Afghanistan. Shenwari strikes again and this time with the huge wicket of Raza. Zimbabwe have lost they way completely and now need 148 runs from 20 overs with just 5 wickets in hand.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 112/2 (Target 272)| Overs 25| BATSMEN: Craig Ervine 41(52), Tinotenda Mutombodzi 25(47): Afghanistan drying up the runs for Zimbabwe. Their batsmen need to maintain the run-rate as it would get much difficult in the end of their innings. At the end of 25th over they need 160 runs off 150 deliveries and the required rate has now climbed over 6 which is alarm for the Zimbabweans to pull up. Mutombodzi is well set now and has spent considerable amount of time out in the middle, he has to keep rotating tyhe strike without enduring any dots.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 96/2 (Target 272)| Overs 20| BATSMEN: Craig Ervine 38(46), Tinotenda Mutombodzi 12(23): Zimbabwe look a bit steady and in control, they need partnerships. There is nothing much in the pitch and batting is a bit easy if one sticks around. Craig Ervine playing a good hand at the moment and he needs to be there for next 15 overs. They can’t afford to waste too many deliveries as the required run rate is almost runs per over.

They are two men down for a mere score of 71 after 15 overs. They now need 201 runs from 35 overs and need a sold partnership before it’s too late for them to get back into the match. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 42/1 (Target 272)| Overs 10| BATSMEN: Richmond Mutumbami 23(30), Craig Ervine 10(18): Craig Ervine and Richmond Mutumbami are anchoring the Zimbabwean innings with immense confidence. After losing a wicket early on in their innings, Zimbabwe now look steady after 10 overs. They should look to continue the good run and try not to lose another wicket for next few overs. A lot of Zimbabwe’s success depends on this pair as they need more 230 runs from 40 overs. at almost 6 runs per over with nine wickets in hand.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Zimbabwe 18/1 (Target 272)| Overs 5| BATSMEN: Richmond Mutumbami 8(15), Craig Ervine 1(3):  Dawlat Zadran and Aftab Alam have started the proceedings for Afghanistan. Zimbabwe looked steady and cautious in the first few overs but Afghanistani bowlers have done exactly the right job of picking an early wicket with new ball. Innings break: Afghanistan have given themselves a chance with a respectable total of 271 on the board. Zimbabwe should be able to chase down the target but it would be a tough challenge as Afghanistan have a good bowling attack and their batsmen have given their bowlers a decent score to fight for.

Stanikzai played a good hand with his 39 and helped his side reach a good total. Zimbabwe bowlers too have done a good job in clinching 6 wickets on a surface which didn’t have enough help for the  bowlers. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 224/5| Overs 45| BATSMEN: Asghar Stanikzai 24(26), Samiullah Shenwari 4(2) | Zimbabwe have struck once again and with the prize wicket of Nabi. Afghanistan cruising towards a good total with Mohammad Nabi’s century  and a much needed one for his side. Stanikzai should look to shift his gears as well and runs should be scored from both the ends. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 195/3 | Overs 40| BATSMEN: Mohammad Nabi 99(106), Asghar Stanikzai 13(14) | Runs have started to come for Afghanistan after losing couple of wickets in quick succession. Nabi is cruising towards his century and skipper Asghar Stanikzai is playing a good role at the crease. This is a key partnership for Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will have to find a way to break it.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 165/3 | Overs 35| BATSMEN: Mohammad Nabi 82(90), Asghar Stanikzai 0(0) | Zimbabwe finally managed to break the partnership as Noor Ali Zadran has been dismissed for a hard fought score of 60 off 99 deliveries. Tinotenda Mutombodzi provided the much needed breakthrough and has broken the partnership which accounted for 133 runs. And Mutombodzi strikes again, this time with wicket of Nawroz Mangal and has brought Zimbabwe back into the game. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 142/1 | Overs 29| BATSMEN: Noor Ali Zadran 54(91), Mohammad Nabi 67(71)| Afghanistan have stepped on the accelerator and have not shifted the gears as runs are coming at a quick rate. They need to stick to this plan and score as many runs as possible along with some big hits every overs as they have enough wickets in hand. Zadran has brought up his tenacious fifty and should look to get Nabi on strike.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 108/1 | Overs 24| BATSMEN: Noor Ali Zadran 37(72), Mohammad Nabi 50(60)| Zimbabwe desperately looking for a wicket and break this partnership. Afghanistan have brought their 100 runs and will have to shift gears now as half of the innings have been bowled out with nine wickets to spare. Nabi playing a magnificent innings and have brought up his half-century in just 59 deliveries which contained three boundaries and couple of sixes. Zadran need to keep rotating the strike and let Nabi take most of the strike as he looks in great touch.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 86/1 | Overs 20| BATSMEN: Noor Ali Zadran 31(61), Mohammad Nabi 34(47)| Afghanistan have now weathered the early storm as the Zadran and Nabi brought up their fifty runs stand between them. They’ve got a good start and should look to capitalise on it. Nabi has played his shorts and Zadran has been a silent contributor. For Zimbabwe, it is mandatory to break this partnership as it is scoring runs.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 61/1 | Overs 14 | BATSMEN: Noor Ali Zadran 20(40), Mohammad Nabi 20(33)| Boundaries have dried up as Zimbabwean bowlers making Zadran and Nabi earn every run. Wellington Masakadza and Tendai Chisoro in command for Zimbabwe and have done a good job so far. Zimbabwe doing the right thing at the moment and one can expect the Afghanistani openers to break the shackles if the run-rate keeps on dropping.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 49/1 | Overs 9 | BATSMEN: Noor Ali Zadran 11(23), Mohammad Nabi 17(19)| Zadran and Nabi trying to steady the Afghanistani ship and getting their eye in. Both need to realize their need to spend time at the crease and against the new ball. They need a quiet partnership of 30 runs from here first which will put them in a good position. Zimbabwe are bowling a tidy line and length now but constantly need to attack.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: Afghanistan 26/1 | Overs 5 | BATSMEN: Noor Ali Zadran 6(17), Mohammad Nabi 1(1)| Afghanistan almost got a desireable start but Zimbabwe drew the first blood in the form of Mohammad Shahzad. Shahzad was looking good and got the ball rolling from the outset at Bulawayo before his innings was cut short while playing a flick to Tinashe Panyangara. The ball is coming nicely on to the bat and looks a high scoring venue. Afghanistan needs a partnership of 50 from the Noor Ali Zadran and Mohammad Nabi now. OUT! Mohammad Shahzad c Richmond Mutumbami b Tinashe Panyangara 17(12)

Toss: Asghar Stanikzai gets it right at the coin toss and has elected to bat first. Zimbabwe will look to continue their form as they 1 ahead in the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series.

Afghanistan will want to give the world further testimony of their growing prowess on the cricket field and will be extra motivated to make an impression. While Zimbabwe will unquestionably begin as favourites, it shouldn’t come as a massive surprise if Afghanistan win the match. The previous time Afghanistan toured Zimbabwe, they bounced back from being 0-2 down to level the series 2-2.

This will be an important series for Asghar Stanikzai, since this is his first big assignment as Afghanistan captain ever since Mohammad Nabi relinquished the position. Elton Chigumbura will continue to lead the Zimbabwean side. In all the teams have played each other on five occasions and Afghanistan have won twice which is indicative that underestimating them in this three-match series is not recommended.
