Afghanistan and Ireland lock horns in the second of the Dubai triangular series. Afghanistan had comprehensively beaten Scotland in the opening encounter.  Afghanistan would love to keep the momentum going.

Ireland should prove to be a much stiffer challenge for Afghanistan considering that they are the closest associate nation to attaining Test match status. Although the Irish haven’t covered themselves with glory lately having won only three of their last 10 matches. The Irish would be keen to end their parched run of form, with the ICC World Cup 2015 just around the corner

Afghanistan had also toured Australia and New Zealand and competed against the various domestic sides. Surprisingly the Afghans had fared significantly better on Trans-Tasman shores than the Irish who struggled to create an impression. There is plenty to play for since this is the last dose of competitive cricket before the World Cup in February for the associate nations. Although whether constantly playing each other is ideal preparation for the World Cup where the minnows will be thrown in the deep end against top Test playing nations is open to debate.
