Australia and West Indies face off on the opening day of the first Test at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Thursday. Australia currently are the outright favourites, especially so after West Indies’ 10-wicket drubbing at the hands of Cricket Australia XI (CA XI) in their warm-up fixture at Brisbane earlier this month. Australia announced their playing XI a day before the scheduled start of play, with James Pattinson returning to the Test side for the first time since March 2014. Pattinson will be a part of the three-pronged Australian pace attack that also includes Peter Siddle and Josh Hazlewood, with Nathan Lyon the only specialist spinner in the side. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Australia vs West Indies 2015-16, 1st Test at Hobart, Day 1

West Indies, on the other hand, have problems galore with their side, lowering the expectations from them following their soulless performance in the tour game. Skipper Jason Holder and Darren Bravo were among the only players in the side to put up decent performances, with Holder taking four wickets in CA XI’s first innings and scoring a brave 65 in their second innings to narrowly avoid an innings defeat. Bravo, meanwhile, scored 51 in their first essay as the West Indians will rely on him heavily to get the runs flowing for the side. West Indies have not won a Test in Australia since 1997, and have not won a series in the five-day format since 1992-93, when the legendary new-ball pair of Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose wrecked havoc for the Australians. Despite the criticism, Ambrose was confident that the visitors could surprise Australia, and even go on to win the match.
