Australia and West Indies meet at the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground for the fourth day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test, the second game of the three-match series on Tuesday. The hosts are currently comfortably placed at a score of 179 for the loss of three wickets, with Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh batting on a run-a-ball 70 and a 18 off 31 balls respectively. Thus, their lead currently amounts to 459, with seven wickets remaining in their second innings and two more days to go, making them favourites to clinch the series 2-0. West Indies, on the other hand, put up a much better performance with the bat than in the first Test, getting reduced to 91 for six at one stage before Darren Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite struck fifties to guide the visitors to a respectable 271, giving Australia a 280-run lead. Brathwaite brought up his half-century on Test debut in a fighting innings, getting dismissed by James Pattinson twice during the knock only to be saved by the bowler overstepping the crease. He was finally dismissed at the stroke of lunch, when Nathan Lyon held on to a brilliant return catch to dismiss Brathwaite for 59 off 126 balls. Bravo continued the fight at his end, bringing up his half-century to continue his sparkling form in the series (having scored 108 in the first innings of the previous Test). Lyon and Pattinson finished with four wickets each for 66 and 72 runs respectively, while Peter Siddle took the wickets of wicketkeeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin and skipper Jason Holder off consecutive deliveries in the 41st over.
