India and Australia clash in the fifth game of the ongoing triangular One-Day International (ODI) series, also featuring England, at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday. The game will be Australia’s last before the final, for which they have already qualified courtesy three consecutive wins in the series so far.

India have extended their disappointing run in their tour of Australia, having lost the Test series 0-2 earlier. They lost their opening game in the tri-series against Australia by four wickets, with Rohit Sharma‘s fighting knock of 138 from 139 balls going in vain. Their outing against England at Brisbane was even worse, with Steven Finn and James Anderson sharing nine wickets between theselves as India collapsed to a total of 153, leading to a a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of fellow visitors England. India need to win both of their remaining games if they intend to proceed to the tournament final.

Australia, on the other hand, have enjoyed a smooth run in the series so far, winning all the three games that they have played so far. In the fourth game of the tri-series, the hosts managed to chase the 304-run target set by England down with three wickets and a ball to spare. Steven Smith rose to the occasion in the absence of David Warner and Shane Watson, remaining unbeaten on 102 from 95 balls.
