Australia continued their command right until the end of Day 3 restricting New Zealand to 121 for 4 with 14 runs trailing. Even though the middle session did belong to Neil Wagner posed a great comeback by picking 4 wickets from last 5 wickets with Australia ending their innings at 505. Martin Guptill fell without scoring as New Zealand set out after Australia’s 135-run first-innings lead with James Pattinson picking his wicket. Pattinson continued his good form and went to add another two wickets adding up to his tally, ending day with figures of 3 for 29. Brendon McCullum came in and tried to build the momentum as he did in the first innings, but failed to stay longer as Josh Hazlewood picked his wicket in the closing half an hour of play, thus ending an illustrious career. Earlier, Wagner claimed his first six-wicket haul as Australia’s tail folded, short ball paid off for him well and all six victims fell for deliveries.Wagner’s only other five wicket haul in tests was against Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2013. Voges in his unbeaten innings of 51 before lunch on Day 3 against New Zealand, went past Sir Donald Bradman’s average of 99.94, with a perfect 100. But to his lucky fell after lunch for 60 having his average back to down to 94.
