Sri Lanka face off against New Zealand in the first of the seven-match ODI series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday. This being a home series for New Zealand would be the perfect platform to get things ready for the ICC World Cup 2015 scheduled top get underway from February in Australia and New Zealand.

New Zealand’s good run in the Test series against the same team have put them on a high as they earned a clean sweep of 2-0 over the visitors. It also makes them the top contenders for the ODI series as well. With the series being played at their home, they are most vulnerable as they have always been against the visiting teams, be it any format of the game.

Sri Lanka might be running low on confidence after the Test series drubbing. However, ODIs being a different ball game could well see them making a strong turn around and can turn the whole game upside down as New Zealand cannot afford to take the Lankans lightly, especially in the limited over format.

Thus, it promises to be an enthralling encounter with both the teams looking to draw the first blood and getting on the build-up to the World Cup on a high note.
