Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 1 of the Group B game of the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy between Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, live from Valsad. Gujarat are currently placed at fifth in the table with 9 points while Uttar Pradesh are placed seventh with 7 points in the kitty. Gujarat drew their previous match with good performances from Parthiv Patel who made a well constructed 122 and Rush Kalaria who took 5 wickets, claiming five of the top six wickets. Uttar Pradesh also had a to settle for a draw with Ankit Rajpoot being pick of the bowler. Parthiv Patel has only been one bright spot for Gujarat in it’s batting line up with amassing 347 runs at a incredible average of 115 with second best being 68 with a difference of only 7 runs, Priyank Kirit Panchal (340 runs). Rujul Bhatt is the best bowler for Gujarat picking up 10 wickets in 3 games. For Uttar Pradesh Sarfaraz Khan is in top form making 160 runs in 2 games at an average of 53.33, only Mohammad Saif is in front with an average of 54.20. Ankit Rajpoot and Kuldeep Yadav are playing catch up with each other with 14 and 10 wickets respectively .

At stumps, Himanshu Asnora was unbeaten on a fighting 56, while medium pacer Ankit Rajpoot was unbeaten on 0. Plenty of Uttar Pradesh batsmen got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Almas Shaukat, Umang Sharma, Eklavya Dwivedi and all-rounder Piyush Chawla got starts but threw them away. Only Asnora and Dwivedi went past 50. Dwivedi played a blinder before getting out. A lot will depend on how Asnora leads the charge yesterday and how the Uttar Pradesh bowlers come out in defense of its total.

Eklavya Dwivedi’s blitzkreig then took close to 150, before he perished immediately after scoring his 50. Murtaza too played surprisingly at a brisk rate before falling cheaply. The freakish batting has now placed the team precariously at 6 for 186, with all-rounder Piyush Chawla and Himasnhu Asnora left for the recovery job.

The next man to come, Ali Murtaza, too looked in a hurry and scored 11-ball 13 before being dismissed. Both the wickets fell to the Gujarat and Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
