Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day Two of the Round seven of Ranji Trophy 2017-18. Only Karnataka, Delhi, and Vidarbha have qualified for the quarterfinal stage and ahead of the last round there are still five spots for the grab. There were some exciting contests on Day One. Here’s how the sides are placed.

Group A

Delhi have put up 336 for five against Hyderabad at the latter’s den. Himmat Singh playing his second First-Class game missed his maiden hundred by a run. More shame that he was run out.

Maharashtra and Assam do not have a chance to qualify for the next round. At Pune, Assam sprung up a surprise. They came back well from 7 for three to post 279, and reduced the hosts to 64 for 3.

Mayank Agarwal continued to shine for Karnataka. In his last six innings, he has now amassed 899 runs. He slammed 173 and Manish Pandey got another century. Karnataka ended Day One against Railways at 355 for 6.

Group B

Haryana are desperate to ruin Kerala’s party at Rothak. However, Sandeep Warrier’s four-for restricted the hosts to 207 for 9. Kerala are eyeing six points from this game to ensure their berth.

Gujarat have a tough battle against hosts Jharkhand at Ranchi. They finished with 262 for four. Manpreet Juneja and Rujul Bhatt have slammed respective fifties and have added 83 for the fifth wicket. Gujarat too are eyeing at least three points from this game.

Saurashtra are making the most of their must-win game. Avi Barot has starred with a hundred as Saurashtra took stumps against Rajasthan at Jaipur at 286 for three.

Kerala, Gujarat and Saurashtra are tussling for the two spots.

Group C

Madhya Pradesh have made a strong case for themselves to press their case for the quarterfinal berth. Playing at Indore, they shot out Odisha for 147 and are 96 for one at this stage.

Mumbai usually do not find themselves in such situations. They will hope for an outright win. Having bundled out Tripura for 195, the hosts put up 77 for three at stumps.

Tamil Nadu have an outside chance but they will have to register an outright win against Baroda at the latter’s den. Baroda have managed 254 for eight at stumps.

Group D

Vidharba have qualified. Bengal are contesting Punjab for the second berth from this group. They might have hoped that it would be a relatively easy outing against the bottom of the table Goa at Eden Gardens. Bengal were 20 for three and had lost skipper Manoj Tiwary for duck. Courtesy Sreevats Goswami and Anustup Majumder’s centuries, Bengal recovered to 305 for five at stumps.

Six points and a Bengal defeat can make it Punjab’s day. They have made a case for themselves by belting 395 for two against Services at Amritsar. Shubnam Gill and Anmolpreet Singh have slammed hundreds.

Himachal Pradesh ended their day at 287 for six against Vidharba at Nagpur, where at the other ground India are locking horns against Sri Lanka. This contest is a dead rubber.
