Hello! We head into match No. 50 of Indian Premier League League (IPL) 2017 with Gujarat Lions (GL) taking on Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Green Park, Kanpur. Think before you dub this game as an inconsequential. The last time GL squared up against Delhi Daredevils (DD), Rishabh Pant played an innings that had the world on its feat. Sachin Tendulkar called it “one of the finest ever” in IPL history. The Suresh Raina-Rishabh Pant moment that we witnessed in the game still makes us believe that in the era of tongue wagging and cuss, the gentleman part remains in the game. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD, Gujarat Lions vs Delhi Daredevils – Match 50

I am Kaustubh S. Mayekar and will bring you the live updates from this contest. A win or loss for either side will make no difference to their fortunes. If anything, their is pride at stake and it is a matter of where you finish in the points table. With Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) reserving the slot for the eighth position, there are other slots to be grabbed in the bottom half. There is more to look to. The match, which is GL’s home game, will be hosted at Kanpur. This happens to be the first game of the season at this venue. This is Raina’s home ground, and he has been in red-hot form. Ignored for Champions Trophy 2017, he will have a point to prove.

GL’s campaign has been hampered due to injuries. They will once again take the field with three foreign players. They lost Dwayne Bravo, Andy Tye and Brendon McCullum due to injuries, and Jason Roy is already off for national duties. With 4 wins from 12 games, they sit at the sixth spot in the points table. They can maximise it to 12 and that is what they will eye.

DD can still end up with 14 points if they bag 3 wins from hereon. To get there, they will need to shed off the inconsistency. They have displayed rare brilliance, chasing down scores in excess of 180 but at the same time they have been dismal. In their last game, against Mumbai Indians, they collapsed to a record 66, a run less than what they managed against Kings XI Punjab a few days back.

In Pant, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair and company, DD possess the next generation of India’s batting. They have an uphill task in hand a,s they will be without the services of Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris and even Angelo Mathews. With nothing to lose, expect a fearless brand of cricket from both the sides.
