Sachin Tendulkar hit his 61st Test half-century and night-watchman Amit Mishra his second as the two Indian batsmen kept England at bay in the first session of play on the final day of The Oval Test. India reached for 216 three at lunch.

Tendulkar, batting on 72, and Mishra, batting on 57, stitched an unbeaten 98 run partnership for the fourth wicket and made sure India doesn t slip further after they lost three wickets last evening.

India are still 75 runs behind in their second innings, after they were asked to follow on.

Earlier, following on, India were 129 for three at close on an eventful penultimate day with the visitors needing 162 more runs to avoid the ignominy of an innings defeat and a 0-4 series whitewash.
