Captain Alastair Cook s decision to bat first on a newly-laid track at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi backfired, when England lost half of their side for mere 121 runs in the second One-Day International against India.

England made a disastrous start, losing both their openers without a run scored.

Seamer Praveen Kumar drew the first blood when he removed Cook for a duck on the fifth ball of the match, caught by Ravindra Jadeja at point.

R Vinay Kumar struck in his first over, dismissing the explosive England batsman Craig Kieswetter for a duck, which left England reeling at nought for two.

Jonathan Trott then tried to bail his team out of trouble, scoring 34 off 37 balls. He had a special liking for Praveen, hitting three consecutive boundaries in the fifth over of the innings to provide England some momentum after the early losses.

Vinay, who gave just 25 runs in his spell of seven overs, jolted England once again when he had Trott caught behind in the 10th over to leave England reeling at 48 for three.

Kevin Pietersen and Ravi Bopara added 73 runs for the fourth wicket.

Pietersen scored 46 off 55 balls was caught behind by MS Dhoni off Umesh Yadav, a few balls after R Ashwin trapped Ravi Bopara for 36 in front of the wickets.

Brief Scores: England 121 for 5 in 25.2 overs (Kevin Pietersen 46, Ravi Bopara 36, Jonathan Trott 34; R Vinay Kumar 2 for 25, Ravichandran Ashwin 1 for 25, Umesh Yadav 1 for 15) vs India.
