VVS Laxman and skipper MS Dhoni piled more misery on the West Indies in the post lunch session as India reached 613 for six at tea on the second day at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Dhoni and Laxman put up an unbeaten 217-run stand for the seventh wicket in about 50 overs, at a healthy run rate of 4.32.

Dhoni, who got two lifelines in the first session, didn t give any chance for the West Indies bowlers to capitalise and smashed his fifth Test century studded with four sixes and 10 boundaries to remain unbeaten on 138, which came from 174 balls.

On the other hand, Laxman, who notched his 17th Test century on Tuesday, is eyeing his second double-century at the Eden Gardens, as he remained not out on 168 off 273 balls, studded with 11 boundaries.

This is Dhoni s second consecutive century at the Eden Gardens, after he hit a century against South Africa in February 2010. In between these two centuries he has registered seven half-centuries in 32 Test innings.

Earlier, continuing his fine run at the Eden Gardens, VVS Laxman stood tall with an unbeaten 106 to put India at a commanding 433 for six when lunch was taken 19 minutes before schedule because of poor light on day two of the second Test against the West Indies.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was giving Laxman company at 22 not out from 32 balls (3×4) on a gloomy morning.

Laxman equalled Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of a fifth century at the venue when he notched up his 17th hundred from 129 Tests, averaging 100-plus in this venue.

Laxman, who was overnight unbeaten on 73, added 33 from 52 balls in the first session to day as India had a fruitful session, losing only Yuvraj Singh (25) during it.

But play was suspended after 107 overs because of poor light with hazy sky followed by a light drizzle.

Resuming at 346 for five, India began with flair as Yuvraj struck a boundary in the point region of the very first ball he faced.

Brief Scores: India 613 for 6 (VVS Laxman 168*, MS Dhoni 138*, Rahul Dravid 119, Gautam Gambhir 65; Darren Sammy 2 for 124) vs West Indies.
