West Indies were off to a poor start losing openers Adrian Barath and Kraigg Brathwaite at a paltry score of 34, after India declared their first innings at 631 for seven with MS Dhoni, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid hitting centuries at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Right arm pacer Umesh Yadav provided India the first breakthrough in the second over, when he had opener Barath caught at the second slip by Virender Sehwag for one.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin soon added more to the West Indies woes when he got rid of Brathwaite, who scored 17 off 31 balls hitting two boundaries.

West Indies reached 34 for two with Kirk Edwards (12) and Darren Bravo (4) at the crease, trailing by 597 runs in the first innings.

Earlier, India declared their first innings at 631 for seven after tea. VVS Laxman remained unbeaten on 176, while skipper MS Dhoni scored a fluent 144 off 175 balls with the help of five sixes and 10 boundaries.
