Pakistan managed to end day one of the second third Test against New Zealand on a high note with Pakistan opener  Mohammad Hafeez nearing to a double-century. Mohammad Hafeez remained unbeaten on 178 and while Misbah-ul-Haq was steady on 38. Pakistan batting once again stood up against the lackadaisical New Zealand bowling display.

New Zealand need to seriously analyse their bowling options, having tried as many as six bowlers without experiencing much success off them. It was mostly the spinning duo in the form of Vettori and Craig who managed to contain the Pakistani batsmen at times. Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum would hope for some divine intervention on the following day in order to contain the Pakistanis.
