Mahela Jayawardene holed out to Ross Taylor off Matt Henry‘s bowling after scoring a solid 27 in 29 balls. Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Matthews has now walked out with Tilakaratne Dilshan to try and take Sri Lanka over the line without further casualties. Dilshan will have his eyes set on three figures.

Earlier Sri Lanka restricted New Zealand to 248 despite Brendon McCullum’s 117 of 99 balls. Rangana Herath was the most effective of the Sri Lankan bowlers conceding just 36 runs and picking two wickets in his 10 overs. The running between the wickets was a major problem for New Zealand as their innings saw four run-outs, considerably impeding their momentum.

Brief scores: New Zealand 248 (Brendon McCullum 117, Ross Taylor 35; Rangana Herath 2 for 36, Sachitra Senanayake 2 for 55) vs Sri Lanka 120/1 (Tilakaratne Dilshan 74, Kumar Sangakkara 38; Matt Henry 21 for 1)
