Mahela Jayawardene becomes 8th batsman to cross 11,000 run mark in ODIs

Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene on Monday surpassed 11,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODI) when he reached 61 against Australia in the Group A encounter of ICC Champions Trophy 2013 at Oval.

He is the eighth player in the world and third Sri Lankan after Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara to cross the 11,000-run mark in the ODI format.

Jacques Kallis and Sangakkara are the only other cricketers in the elite list apart from Jayawardene to be still playing.

The list of the highest run-scorers in ODIs is headed by Sachin Tendulkar who has 18,426 runs to his credit.

Jayawardene played yet another brilliant innings on Monday to take Sri Lanka out of deep waters in a must-win encounter.
