Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene, who has been appointed as next coach of Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, is surely enjoying the new role and looking excited. Jayawardene replaced former Australian captain Ricky Ponting as MI coach. The former Sri Lankan has represented three teams in the cash rich league. He has played for Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Delhi Daredevils franchise. Before him, Ponting coached MI side in last two seasons of IPL and was the part of the franchise since 2013. Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews congratulated Jayawardene for taking this new role. Jayawardene is soon expected to travel to Mumbai to conduct a detailed meeting with the club management and to take charge of his new office. As reported by IANS, Jayawarnde expressed his excitement over taking this new role and said, I am very excited by the appointment and glad that the Mumbai Indians management appreciated my presentation and ideas. I am looking forward to working with a really talented squad, all the support staff, and the owners to help strengthen the two-time IPL champions.

With this new role, Jayawardene did a question, answer session with fans of MI on Twitter, and expressed his views.

His coaching career began in August 2015 after signing with England Cricket Board as batting consultant for England side. He played this role of batting consultant with England team till the ICC World T20 2014.
