Mahela Jayawardene scores 11th Test ton at SSC; Sri Lanka 212/3 at tea on Day 1 against South Africa

Mahela Jayawardene dominates at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SCC). On Day One of the second Test against South Africa, Jayawardene has scored his 11th Test ton at the SSC and taken Sri Lanka to 212 for three. This is Jayawardene’s 34th Test ton.

The session started with Sri Lanka at 115 for three. Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews were in the centre and they then resumed batting with the South African pacers ready to take the attack. But, Sri Lankans started attacking and changed the complexion of the game.

Jayawardene continued to bat solidly. Though his scoring rate reduced, he moved along very well and smashed it. Imran Tahir was lofted down the ground for a huge six. There were also a few great drives in the innings.

Mathews was also in great form and has continued to do well in this game. He is batting on 48.
