The selection committee announced India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025 on August 22. Notably, the selectors kept most of the players who were part of T20I series against England. Suryakumar Yadav was named the captain of the team, along with Shubman Gill being his deputy. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal was one player who did not get a place in the list.

Regarding Yashasvi Jaiswal not being named in the list, former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary questioned the selection committee. Tiwary pointed that Gautam Gambhir had backed the left-hander and had stated that he should not be left out of the T20 squad.

“The two deserving candidates could not secure a place in the team. They are Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal. If you look at old videos of current India coach Gautam Gambhir, he said in an interview that Yashasvi Jaiswal is a player who can always secure a place in the T20 team and should never be left out. And today, even after he has become a coach, his place has not been secured,” Tiwary told ANI.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was also rested from the squad for the T20I series against England. His last appearance for India was back in 2024 against Sri Lanka. He has not been taken in the squad ever since, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma being given the opening positions.
