Martin Guptill gestured with two fingers after he sent an Andre Russell delivery towards the roof of the Westpac Stadium at Wellington during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 quarter-final between New Zealand and West Indies on Saturday. The gesture was towards current New Zealand batting coach and former Black Cap Craig McMillan, who is the only other batsman to send the ball towards the roof of the stadium, known popularly as the ‘Cake Tin’. Read: New Zealand vs West Indies, ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 quarter-final highlights
Guptill played the shot off the first delivery off the final over of the New Zealand innings, in which Russell conceded 20 runs off the over. The six, which measured 110 metres, is said to be one of the biggest sixes in the entire tournament. Guptill smashed 11 sixes and 24 fours during his stay at the crease, finishing on a score of 237 off 163 balls, the highest score in a World Cup match. The whirlwind innings surpassed Chris Gayle‘s 147-ball 215 against Zimbabwe, which was the first-ever World Cup double-ton. Guptill was earlier dropped on a score of four.
