Martin Guptill’s ton takes New Zealand to victory over South Africa in second T20 at East London

Opener Martin Guptill scored a brilliant unbeaten ton to guide New Zealand to a eight-wicket victory in the second T20 International against South Africa at East London on Sunday.

Chasing 166 for victory, New Zealand openers Guptill and Rob Nicol added 76 for the opening wicket before Robin Peterson earned the hosts their first wicket.

Earlier, the match got delayed due to floodlight failure and was reduced to 19-over a side.

The Kiwis started on a good note as they dismissed opener Richard Levi for five with South Africa’s score on 13 in 3.1 overs. However, Henry Davids and skipper Faf du Plessis scored half-centuries to put the hosts in a commanding position. They added 68 runs in 47 balls for the second wicket.

The skipper upped the tempo once Davids was dismissed by McClenaghan for 55. David Miller joined du Plessis in the middle and added 79 runs in 42 balls for the third wicket.
