Martin Guptill‘s 45 at Rajkot, in November, had pushed him above Shoaib Malik in the list of most runs in T20Is. With 1,863 runs Guptill was at the fourth spot, behind Tillakaratne Dilshan (1,889), Virat Kohli (1,943), and Brendon McCullum (2,140).

Guptill needed another 34 runs to dethrone Dilshan from the third spot before the three-T20I series against New Zealand. He scored 5 and 2 in the first two matches, and blasted 63 off 51 balls in the final match to surpass Dilshan. He is 31 runs away from going past Kohli’s 1,956 runs.

In all Guptill has 11 fifties in the format, scoring runs with a strike of over 130. Guptill with 81 sixes ranks fourth in the list of most sixes in the format. He is behind Shane Watson (83), Brendon McCullum (91), and Chris Gayle (103).

Guptill also has a hundred in the format. Against South Africa in 2012, Guptill smashed 101* off 69 balls. His stunning innings helped New Zealand chase down 166. Earlier that year Guptill had remained unbeaten on 91* against Zimbabwe. A hundred would have beckoned had Zimbabwe posted more runs.
