South Africa legend Dale Steyn has said that Yashasvi Jaiswal should temporarily ease off his trademark cut shot, similar to how Sachin Tendulkar has once shelved his drive in Australia. The young left-hander fell again on Tuesday while attempting to play the shot against Marco Jansen.
âItâs his go-to shot, and breaking that instinct is tough. When you see the ball in your zone, you go for it. But maybe itâs something he needs to consciously cut down on. I remember Sachin once removed the drive from his game in Australia. Jaiswal may also need to say, âUnless itâs in a specific area, I wonât play it. In this area, Iâll trust my defenceâ,â Steyn said on JioHotstar after the dayâs play.
âIt was a bit of a false shot by Jaiswal. Itâs his default option â he likes playing that shot. He is probably so used to right-arm bowlers angling the ball across him that playing that shot feels natural. But with Marco Jansen being a left-armer, it looks like the ball will angle away and give him room, but very often itâs tighter than he expects. Thatâs why he sometimes drags the ball back onto his stumps or edges it. As it pitches, it often straightens instead of going across, and thatâs how it finds the edge â either side of the bat â leading to bowled, caught in slips, or caught behind,â he added.

India will enter the final day under huge pressure. They ended Day 4 at 27/2 in Guwahati and now need to bat through the entire last day just to save the match. Even a draw wonât prevent them from losing the series, as South Africa already won the first Test at Eden Gardens. If India wants to win this match and level the series, they would need to chase a massive 549 runs in the fourth innings.
