New Delhi: Apr 17, 2012

Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag’s sister Anju Meherwal on Tuesday won the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections from the Dakshinpuri Extension. Anju contested the polls on a Congress ticket. Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appeared heading towards winning the three newly-created municipal corporations.

This MCD election result comes as a double joy for the Delhi Daredevils skipper Sehwag, after his side thrashed Mumbai Indians on Monday night at the Wankhede Stadium.

Earlier, Sehwag on Thursday added more star power to MCD polls campaigning by canvassing votes for his sister.

Sehwag took time off IPL 2012 and spent around two hours in the evening in Dakshinpuri Extension, the ward from which his sister Anju Meherwal fought the elections.

Criss-crossing the ward in an open jeep, the hard-hitting batsman successfully wooed the electorate seeking votes for the 35-year-old candidate, a Hindi teacher, PTI reported.

Anju is married to a property dealer Ravinder Singh and lives in Madangir village. There was a huge crowd to see Sehwag who was campaigning with his sister.

Dressed in a green T-shirt and sporting a cap, Sehwag went to some by-lanes. However, he did not make any speech during his campaigning.
