Libra Legends have succumbed to a 10-run defeat in Masters Champions League (MCL) 2016 at Sharjah. Michael Lumb hit an excellent half-century but that was not enough to help the Legends get over the line . VSK had scored 168 in their first innings and would have backed themselves to win this match at the innings break. Lumb put on 102-run partnership for the opening wicket along with Jacques Kallis and ensured they got their team off to the ideal start. The Legends have now lost two games in a row and the Graeme Smith-led side will look to bounce back in their next fixture. Lumb survived an early scare as he was dropped by Owais Shah early in his innings. But he never looked back after that and started to play with much more freedom from there on. He was stumped off the bowling of Malinga Bandara after he went past fifty. Legends kept losing wickets at regular intervals but in spite of ten Doeschate’s huge blows of Bandara’s over in the penultimate over the Legends could not finish off the job for their side. This win will give a lot of confidence for theVSK, going into the next match..
VSK had earlier won the toss and elected to bat first. Smith’s fifty had led VSK to a competitive score of 168 for 5 in their 20 overs. Brad Hogg was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 3 for 12 in his four overs. Other batsmen like Neil McKenzie and Shah too chipped in with a few vital runs, that helped VSK reach a decent score.
Brief Scores:
Virgo Super Kings 168 for 5 in 20 overs (Graeme Smith, Neil McCkenzie 26; Ryan ten Deoschate 1 for 16, Brad Hogg 3 for 12) beat Libra Legends 163 for 4 in 20 Overs by 5 runs.
