The Pakistan team’s Champions Trophy campaign officially came to an end on Thursday as their final group stage match against Bangladesh got washed-out in Rawalpindi. The hosts ended their group with just 1 point from 3 matches, finishing bottom of their group with a net run-rate of -1.087.
This is a huge disappointment for not just the team but for Pakistan cricket as a whole as they couldn’t even win a single match after hosting an ICC event for the first time in 29 years.
The Men in Green began their Champions Trophy campaign on an xtremely negative note as they ended up comprehensively losing against New Zealand by 60 runs.
Then, things went from bad to worse for the hosts as arch-rivals India handed them their second consecutive defeat of the tournament which saw them reach the verge of elimination.
Their fate was eventually sealed as New Zealand defeated Bangladesh to book their spot in the semi-finals and knock out both The Tigers and Pakistan from the tournament. The Men in Green must have been hoping to end the campaign on a positive note by defeating Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, however that didn’t happen either as rain had the final say.
Following Pakistan’s elimination a meme fest erupted on social media platforms as fans roasted The Men in Green for their highly disappointing campaign.
