Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma have allegedly been at odds since the former was traded to the Mumbai Indians (MI) from the Gujarat Titans. With Pandya’s comeback, Rohit’s ten-year reign as team captain comes to an end, as the talismanic all-rounder, who guided the Titans to two successive IPL finals, is chosen captain of the five-time winners, Mumbai Indians.
In a surprising turn of events, MI coach Mark Boucher recently detailed the reasons for the leadership move, but it was met with scathing criticism. Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, also criticized the coach’s remarks, saying, “So many things wrong with this.” According to reports, the two cricketers unfollowed each other on Instagram just days after.
Meanwhile, the reports remain ambiguous, with various social media users expressing differing views. Certain ‘X’ users said the two never followed one other on Instagram, while others claimed Hardik had already stopped following Rohit.
MI Coach Mark Boucher mentioned that Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain was a “Cricketing Decision”
“I think it was purely a cricketing decision. We saw the window period to get Hardik back as a player. For me, it’s a transition phase. A lot of people don’t understand in India, people get quite emotional, but you know you take the emotions away from it. I think it’s just more of a cricketing decision that was made and I do think it is going to bring the best out of Rohit as a person as a player. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs,” Boucher had said on the Smash Sports podcast.
