Michael Clarke and Alastair Cook, as captains of rivalling Ashes teams, have expectedly been involved in tense moments on the field as is the nature of the iconic series, but they seem to have great amount of respect for each other once they are off the field. Cook publicly heaped praise on Clarke following the fourth Test after the former announced his retirement. Clarke has returned the compliment by labelling Cook as ‘great guy.’ The two sides shared drinks after the series was over. ALSO READ: David Warner, Joe Root signal end of bitter rivalry

“It was good, like it always is after a series win or lose,” Clarke told Triple M’s Hot Breakfast as reported by cricket.com.au about the shared drinks session. “Since I’ve been captain we’ve always gone into the opposition’s change rooms. They’re (England) a good bunch of fellas. They played really well,” Clarke added. ALSO READ: Shane Warne equals Michael Clarke to Allan Border

“Cooky’s a great guy. We’ve had a long standing relationship, played a lot of cricket against each other and we always try and catch up after the series,” Clarke said about his rival captain. “So it was important to get in there and congratulate them and have that beer,” he added.

According to Clarke Australia could enjoy the post series beer with a smile on the face, owing to their victory in the final Test which made the series defeat less hurting. “The positive side for us is we won that last Test so that probably put a little smile on our face too,” Clarke concluded.
