Australia coach Mickey Arthur on Saturday backed middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh to come good in the third Test match against India, which begins on January 13 at Perth.

Marsh has had a poor run in the ongoing Test series having scored just three runs in the first two Tests, which includes two ducks.

The left-handed batsman had suffered a back injury during Australia s tour of South Africa, but he showed signs of form slamming a fine 99 in a Big Bash game for the Perth Scorchers.

Arthur was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald, ”It’s always tough coming straight back. He had quite a severe injury and was out for six weeks where before the injury he was right on top of his game. It’s going to take him a little bit of time to get that back.”

“We’ve got to identify the players and give them the opportunity. We’ve got to back that we’ve put our faith in the right personnel. Shaun’s certainly a guy that we have got a lot of faith in. He’s shown when he’s played that he’s done exceptionally well,” he said.

“He has been a little out of touch but form’s temporary, class is permanent and Shaun certainly has a lot of class and is one that is definitely worth persevering with. The thing with Shaun is when he plays well he leaves very well,” he added.

The Australian coach said, “He has probably been just a little bit tentative and that is natural because when you come back into international cricket you are going to be tentative. I’m not worried. Shaun is a fantastic player who is going to score a lot of runs for Australia.”
