Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq said on Tuesday that his side s seventh position as per the new ICC Twenty20 world rankings is “shocking”, adding that they will aim to improve in the shortest form of the international game.

“It was quite a shock to the whole team. We felt it quite a lot, all the players,” Misbah said.

The Pakistan skipper added that the players are eager to improve their ranking before next year’s World Twenty20, which will be held in Sri Lanka.

“We’ve spoken about it as well. All the players have quite a lot of concern about it. All the players want to do well. We’ve lost quite a few of our last T20s, so all the players felt it and their thinking is that they need to improve it now,” he said.

Misbah added that his side will change its approach the next time it plays a T20 match. “Next time we play a T20, our approach will be that this is a format that we have done really well in, it’s a format that we’ve played a lot, and our performances in the three World T20s, runner-up, winner, then semis, we want to bring that ranking back,” he added.

Pakistan were the runners-up in the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007, which was won by India. They listed the cup in the second edition when the tournament was held in England in 2009, and were semi-finalists in the last event held in the Caribbean in 2010.

Pakistan have lost 13 of their last 24 T20s that they have played since August 2009 to August 2011 a period during which the inaugural rankings were devised and announced, Cricket365 reported.
