Mitchell Johnson grabs 7 for -35? You read that right

A week after he said goodbye to the Big Bash League, retired Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson grabbed a seven-wicket haul … in indoor cricket.

Turning out for an indoor cricket team called ‘The MBC’ in Perth last week, Johnson walked away with figures of 7 for -35 in two overs against ‘Bowling Darts’ in a popular Monday night setting. For the uninitiated, the rules of indoor cricket – a popular format of the game in Australia which enjoys attraction especially with youngsters – a team loses five runs for each wicket that falls. Hence the negative runs in Johnson’s run column.

Uniquely, Johnson recorded one dismissal as being ‘stumped’ – a feat never achieved across 256 international appearances for Australia. And despite the presence of Australia’s fourth most successful bowler in Test cricket, ’The MBC’ ended up losing to ‘Bowling Darts’ by 51-100.

Johnson, 36, announced last month that he would not return Perth Scorchers for this summer’s BBL season. He will, however, play in the T10 League in the UAE.
