Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson has been left out of the Australian squad for the Ashes in July, but fast bowler Dirk Nannes has backed the left-arm pacer to force a change of mind for selectors for his inclusion in the Test series.

“To his credit, he’s hitting the seam now and that’s why he needs to hang around. He needs to be here. Undoubtedly on a tour like this, someone is going to get injured. They’re going to be in England for a long time. He’s going to get an opportunity.” Australia’s Nannes was quoted as saying by Australian Associated Press.

Johnson who had a successful run in the sixth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians, made his critics take a note of his regained form. Chairman of selectors John Inverarity had earlier stated that the Ashes squad could always be added to, which provides some hope for Johnson.

It’s not just the Australian’s who are excited about Johnson’s form, even the English fans are looking forward to watching Johnson in the Ashes. Even during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 game against England, the bowler was at the butt of their jokes with trademark chants.

The presence of an in-form Johnson will make England batsmen take a note of it. Batsman Ian Bell too praised the left-armer’s bowling after the Champions Trophy game.
