Mitchell Starc makes a return to international cricket as Australia name their 16-man squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) tri-series against West Indies and South Africa in the West Indies in June. Left arm fast bowler Starc had sustained a foot injury in the historic Day-Night Test against New Zealand at Adelaide last year, missed the ICC World T20 2016 in India as well. Starc is making a comeback into the team after successfully undergone ankle surgery and rehabilitation since then. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon and Travis Head have also been included in the ODI side. Chairman of selectors Rod Marsh was quoted by cricket.com.au saying, “Mitchell has progressed very well in his rehab and the medical staff are confident he will be fit to play in this series.” Rod further added that “It is extremely pleasing to have a bowler of his calibre back in the side.” Starc will feature in a bowling line which boasts the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Coulter-Nile and John Hastings. Along with Nathan Lyon, Australia have also retained Adam Zampa, who was star bowling in World T20 in India. “Nathan has bowled very well in the West Indies in the past and we are predicting we will see some slow turning pitches,” Marsh said.  Speaking about Zampa Rod added that, “Adam has impressed us in India during the World T20 and has bowled consistently well, and with confidence, when given his opportunity.”

This will also be Head’s first ever Australia ODI call up, along with him Matthew Wade also comes back into the team after having been dropped from the T20 squad. “Travis has put in some match-winning performances in all three formats of the game this summer,” Marsh added. Opening pair of Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch is likely to continue in that position with David Warner coming in at No.4. Steven Smith will led the side. Former T20I captain George Bailey also features in the team along with a group of all-rounders in Glenn Maxwell, James Faulkner and Mitchell Marsh.

Australia’s first match sees them pitching against familiar foes South Africa on June 6 in Guyana. The final match of the series will take place at Barbados on June 26.
