Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc is in phenomenal form in the Ashes series. In the absence of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, Starc has single-handedly dismantled England. Australia has retained the Ashes series, and he has troubled England with both bat and ball. With two matches remaining in the Ashes series, Mitchell Starc has a chance to make history with the ball.
Mitchell Starc could become the leading wicket-taker in the history of the World Test Championship by the time the final Ashes Test in Sydney concludes. If he achieves this, he will surpass his compatriots Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon. It’s also a relief for Starc that both Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon are ruled out of the remaining two Tests of the Ashes series.
Starc has taken 213 wickets in 52 Test matches of the World Test Championship between 2019 and 2025. If he takes 12 more wickets in the next two Tests, he will reach 225 wickets and become the most successful bowler in the history of the World Test Championship. Currently, Starc is in third place after Lyon and Cummins.
Nathan Lyon is currently in first place with 224 wickets in 55 Test matches between 2019 and 2025. Pat Cummins is in second place with 221 wickets in 52 Test matches during the same period. Cummins only played the third Test of the Ashes series. Given Starc’s current form in the Ashes series, it is highly likely that he will become the most successful bowler in World Test Championship history during the next two Test matches.
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has taken 22 wickets in the first three Test matches. Looking at Starc’s Test career, the 35-year-old fast bowler has taken 424 wickets in 103 Test matches.
