Although India had a disappointing end to their fairytale ICC Womenâs World Cup 2017 campaign, they won hearts of many across the country. India were on winning-spree since the first match thrashing England, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the league stages. However, India sent out a strong message when they trounced defending champions Australia in the semi-final, courtesy Harmanpreet Kaurâs 171*. India had a match-winner in every game, but their skipper Mithali Raj stood tall shattering records after records. Following the good show in the World Cup, former chief selector of junior Indian cricket team and vice-president of Hyderabad District Badminton Association, Chamundeswaranath will be presenting a BMW car to the cricketer. Mithali explains about her bizarre run out in India vs England Womenâs World Cup final
He has presented cars to several sports personalities over the years and will present Mithali the car on her arrival at Hyderabad. To enlighten further on this special gift, Chamundeswaranath told The Times of India (TOI), âMithali has been a great influence on Indian cricket. The way she has led the side is remarkable. For a number of years, she has been the leading light of the Indian womenâs cricket. Our girls are performing quite well. We need to encourage womenâs cricket in a big way. I think with their brilliant show in England they have brought a lot of attention to the womenâs game. More girls will be inspired to take up cricket now.â

Chamundeswaranath has gifted Mithali a car back in 2007. She was presented with Chevrolet then. Apart from Mithali, the other sports personalities who have been gifted with BMW cars were Rio Olympics winners, Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu. Sachin Tendulkar had presented those cars in a special event at Hyderabad.
Dipa Karmarkar and coach Pullela Gopichand were also gifted BMW in the same event. In the past badminton players Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap were given cars too.
