Moeen Ali completes 1,000 Test runs today at Durham against Sri Lanka on Day 2 of 2nd Test. Ali has been brilliant down the order over the years for England. He holds onto one end and tries to take the inning further and getting them to a respectable score. He took 39 innings to reach this feat. He has performed reasonably well for a batsman at No.8 spot. He comes out and plays his shots. He is weak outside off stump and against short balls but has used it to his advantage. He came to the crease when England were 227 for 5 after losing James Vince. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: England vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test at Chester-le-street

He shared a  60 run partnership with Jonny Bairstow to get England’s innings back on track. He took a backseat as Bairstow was being his usual self and attacking the ball, picking up boundaries.  After Bairstow got out just 2 runs short of his fifty he did the same with Chris Woakes. He tried to play the ball to its merit and driving it to the covers region for ones and twos. He was dropped in the starting off the day but didn’t take the second chance for granted and started playing with more caution.

He was tested with the short ball but succeeded in keeping it down. He kept working the ball into the gaps, rotating the strike and keep the scoreboard moving. He hit a four against Herath to reach his fifty towards. Herath remained wicket-less after Day 1. He is still searching for his 300th Test wicket.
