Centurion: Mar 3, 2013

Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez played a scintillating knock of 86 off just 51 deliveries as Pakistan punished the South African bowlers and posted an enormous total in the second T20 at Centurion on Sunday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Hafeez came to the crease in the fourth over after opener Nasir Jamshed holed one out to Justin Ontong at midwicket.

Hafeez made his intentions clear from the start of his innings and put blazed away to add 83 runs off just the next 46 deliveries with Ahmad Shehzad for the second wicket.

The duo did extremely well to take the team total past the 100-run mark as South Africa’s second string bowling attack looked toothless.

They soon pulled one back, as Shehzad was run out with Pakistan at 111 for two in the 12th over.

But, the day continued to belong to skipper Hafeez. He put on another crucial partnership, this time with Umar Akmal as they amassed 43 runs in just 21 deliveries to keep the runs flowing. Akmal fell in the 15th over as Pakistan were at 155 for three.

Hafeez’s sublime innings consisted of 9 fours and four sixes and he looked set to score a century, but fell to an unfortunate dismissal when his backfoot clipped the stumps after he smashed a delivery through covers for a four. South Africa rejoiced after dismising Hafeez through a hit wicket, probably the only way they could on this day.

But despite his wicket, the damage had already been done and Pakistan posted 195/7 in their 20 overs.

Brief Scores: Pakistan 195 for 7 (Mohammad Hafeez 86,  Ahmed Shehzad 46; Rory Klienveldt 2 for 27) vs South Africa
