The Pakistan Cricket Team got knocked out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy following successive defeats against New Zealand and India respectively. The side led by Mohammad Rizwan suffered a 60-run loss in the tournament opener against the Black Caps before losing against the Men in Blue by 6 wickets.
As New Zealand beat Bangladesh on February 24, Pakistan’s fate was sealed and they were eliminated from the tournament. On the other hand, India and New Zealand are the teams which confirmed their qualification for the semi-finals.
However, according to a report by Cricket Pakistan, the Men in Green’s poor performance in the tournament was due to an ‘internal conflict’ between the team’s captain Rizwan and coach Aqib Javed.
“Mohammad Rizwan appeared frustrated due to a lack of consultation on key decisions. When he advocated for the inclusion of Khushdil Shah, Aqib Javed went ahead and selected Faheem Ashraf on his own. The selection committee and Mohammad Rizwan were clearly not on the same page,” the report said.
The report added that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also suggested twice to make changes in the squad ahead of the ICC tournament, but his advice was not taken into consideration.
