The Champions Trophy 2025 was supposed to be a blaze for Pakistan, as they were the ones hosting the tournament. Since the team had disappointing outings in the recent times, the Men in Green were expected to perform well. However, within just 5 days, the team got eliminated from the event.
Pakistan’s series opening clash saw a defeat to New Zealand, then a few days later a loss to historic-rival India. After that it was all a virtual knockout blow to Pakistan, where Rizwan needed results from the other teams to go in their favour. However, they soon faced a massive shock as their elimination got confirmed.
Speaking to Sports Tak, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammed Amir did not hold back and brutally trolled Mohammed Rizwan while comparing his captaincy to that of Babar Azam.
âRizwan (laughs)… You have come from a Ferrari to a rickshaw now (laughs again). At some point, I liked him because he has captained in domestic cricket and also in PSL, he was successful there and his team would play in the final. But then suddenly if you see after 2-4 months, his decisions began to change suddenly. I donât know why or what happened as I havenât shared the dressing room with him for 2-4 months. Why is he behaving this way, his decisions are coming across as strange,â he said.
âHe was a daring captain at the start. It looked like he would change some things. But then suddenly in 2-4 months, you feel that he is very distant from cricketing knowledge. Everyone thinks that Ahmed (Shehzad) made videos, I gave interviews to the media, even Wasim (Akram) bhai, you name it. Everyone said that this squad is not fine, there are no genuine openers, you should add spinners. If the captain says he didnât have any power, that is a lie, he does have power. The way Rizwan was appointed as skipper, he could have made these decisions but he didnât do it, I donât know why,â he added.
According to report by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) has announced to uphold a review of the Pakistan teamâs performance after the Champions Trophy 2025. This might include a significant change in the squad, especially players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.
