Mohammed Shami was included in India’s squad for their upcoming tour of Australia 2015-16. The series that includes five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) begins from January 12 and will go on until the end of the month. Shami who was India’s best bowler in the ICC World Cup 2015 had sustained a knee injury in May and has been out of action since then. Shami who bagged 17 wickets in 7 matches in the mega event was forced to stay out from India’s tour of Sri Lanka and the Freedom Series against South Africa at home earlier in the year.

A long spam of rehabilitation led Shami to make a comeback in the sport with getting selected for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare trophy. In a recent interview, Shami said, “I am back after eight months, so I am taking it slow and easy I am gearing up to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It will be a good preparation going into the limited-overs series against Australia.”

The selection is being made keeping the upcoming ICC World T20 2016 in mind. And the players picked for the ODIs are automatically chosen for the T20I series as well. The automatic names that include in the squad are skipper MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. The defeat at the hands of South Africa at home in the ODI and T20I series was a reality check for MS Dhoni’s men. Also the loss to the same opponents in the semi-final of ICC World Cup 2015 will be fresh, while they will aim to mend ways and therefore comeback to winning ways.
