Mohammed Shami’s return in Indian squad to be marked with T20I series against England: Report
Shami to return to Indian squad for T20I v ENG
Almost 14 months after he last played for India, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is going to make a comeback in the Blue jersey during the five-match T20I series against England, beginning January 22 in Kolkata. The last time Shami played for India was in the 2023 World Cup final, after which he suffered an ankle injury and got sidelined.
The 34-year-old has made a return to cricket as he played in the Ranji Trophy and has also played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). He is also playing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The selectors have also decided to go with Dhruv Jurel as the second wicketkeeper in the squad, along with Sanju Samson being the first choice. Dhruv is going to replace Jitesh Sharma. Nitish Kumar Reddy, the star of the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is also a part of the T20I squad in place of Ramandeep Singh. All-rounder Shivam Dube has also been dropped from the squad, with Yashasvi Jaiswal replacing Abhishek Sharma at the top order.
