Dhoni, who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in December 2004, made his first impression against India s arch rivals Pakistan at Visakhapatnam in April next year. He scored 148 off just 123 balls with 15 boundaries and 4 sixes. His highest score and perhaps Dhoni s best innings, however came next year in October when he blasted 183 not out against Sri Lanka. In that innings, the right-handed batsman faced 145 balls, struck 15 boundaries and as many as 10 sixes to rattle the cricketing world. Despite the feats, it has been a very long time since the dashing batsman has scored a century. His last ODI ton was against Australia, at Mohali in October 2013.

Dhoni is close to leading India in 200 ODIs, and his record as captain is impeccable. He has scored more than 6,500 runs as captain averaging more than 54, hitting 6 centuries and 46 half-centuries.

Widely famous for being one of the best batsmen in ODI chases ever, Dhoni has terrorised bowling teams whenever he has walked out to bat. His knack of taking the matches till the end and pulling off stunning victories, his running between the wickets, his ability to strike the ball extremely hard, his helicopter shot are a few traits which make Dhoni one of the best ODI batsmen ever seen.
