MS Dhoni conferred Lieutenant Colonel rank

Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni and ace shooter Abhinav Bindra on Tuesday were conferred with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Army by President Pratibha Patil.

The honorary rank was bestowed on the two for their outstanding contribution in the field of cricket and shooting as well as for their commitment to the Army on various occasions.

Dhoni led India to World Cup victory earlier this year while, Bindra won the only individual Olympic gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

“The honour has been bestowed on Dhoni and Bindra for their outstanding contribution in the field of cricket and shooting respectively and their commitment to the army on various occasions,” a press statement issued by the government said.
