Indian captain MS Dhoni has defended his batsmen from the allegation fuelled by Australia’s batsmen Glenn Maxwell, that they are milestone-driven. Maxwell struck a vital 96 in the third One-Day International (ODI) between the two sides to guide Australia to another comfortable win by three wickets, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. India posted a target of 296 for Australia to win, which they achieved thanks to a brilliant innings by Maxwell. Dhoni, replying to a query whether his batsmen are milestone-driven, said that it can be checked with statistics that it was not the case. “No, certainly not. I don’t think so. Don’t ask me to elaborate, the statistics are with you,” is all that Indian captain had to offer in defense of his batsmen. India lost their five-match ODI series to Australia on Sunday with the defeat in the third ODI. India had earlier lost the first ODI by 5 wickets at WACA in Perth, and the second ODI by 7 wickets at Gabba in Brisbane. On both the occasions India set a target in excess of 300, which was easily chased by Australia.

Australia now lead the series 3-0 and there will be two more ODIs played between them and India. The fourth ODI of the series will be played at Canberra and the fifth at Sydney on January 20 and 23 respectively.
