Critics continued to lash out at MS Dhoni for inability to accelerate in the T20Is against New Zealand. His captain Virat Kohli had come out in defence of the senior man, announcing that Dhoni himself will be taking a call on his T20I career. India coach Ravi Shastri, who had defended Dhoni earlier, continued with his defence on Tuesday. As quoted by IANS, Shastri backed Dhoni by saying that people should take a look at his illustrious career. He added that Dhoni has a lot of cricket left in him and it’s too early for him to hang up his boots. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Sri Lanka 2017-18, 1st Test at Eden Gardens

On Dhoni latest criticisms

“People should look back at their careers before commenting on Dhoni. The former captain has a lot of cricket left in him and it is the duty of the team to back the legend. There is no one better than Dhoni on the field given his ability behind the wicket and with the bat and his presence of mind and sharpness on the field.”

On Hardik Pandya being rested for Sri Lanka Tests

“This team is not about one particular individual… we lose together, we win together.”

On player athleticism

“In terms of fielding, this team is the very best in the world at the moment and that’s something that separates this team from Indian teams of the past.”

On the upcoming Tests vs Lanka

“This team always turns up on the park to win. We hope to win the series spread over one-and-a-half months before going to South Africa.”
