National selectors are likely to rest skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the upcoming opening Test against the West Indies according to reports.

After the disastrous England tour, Dhoni played in the CL T20 before leading India in the five-match one-day series in which the hosts whitewashed England 5-0.

“There is no doubt that the captain will do with some rest. Plus, his wicketkeeping hasn’t been tidy recently, so there is a chance he will be asked to stay away even for the whole Test series,” said a source.

However, Dhoni had recently insisted that he can cope well without a break.

Virender Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir will lead the side in absence of Dhoni.

Meanwhile, the first Test squad is likely to include Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Ishant Sharma, who had their share of injury worries on the England tour.
