Hyderabad player Ambati Rayudu has been called in as replacement for injured skipper MS Dhoni who has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI tri-series in the Caribbean due to a hamstring injury.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the news on Twitter:

BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel in a statement said, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been ruled out of the ongoing tri-series in the West Indies, due to a hamstring injury.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked Ambati Rayudu as his replacement in the squad. Rayudu will join the team at the earliest.

Virat Kohli will lead India in the remainder of the tri-series.”

Earlier a source in Mumbai said, “Dhoni is not feeling good. He is going to be examined. He has a hamstring issue.”

Dhoni handed over the wicket-keeping duties to teammate Dinesh Karthik in their opening match, which was won by the West Indies by one wicket at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

Rayudu caught the eyes of the selectors during his stint with Mumbai Indians. His performance in the middle-order since the third season has lifted the side in crunch games.

India will take on Sri Lanka next on July 2.
