Murali Kartik: I cannot see India winning the World Cup

Oct 18, 2014
Murali Kartik, the former Indian spinner said it would be tough for MS Dhoni’s boys to win the next ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand. While attending the “Aaj Tak” organised, Salaam Cricket conclave, he was asked whether India can win the World Cup or not. In reply he said, “Crystal-ball gazing is difficult, but if this team goes into the World Cup I cannot see them winning. If consistency is the criterion for picking it is not being maintained. There are quality many cricketers sitting outside the team. You need match-winners to win a World Cup, and they, like Yuvraj and Harbhajan, are sitting outside.”
The conclave – named ‘Kaise Jeetenge World Cup’ – is attended by the likes of , Kapil Dev, Allan Border, Imran Khan, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Arjuna Ranatunga, who are among the captains who led their teams to World Cup wins. Among the other skippers will be Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly, Ajay Jadeja, Mohammad Azharuddin, Bishan Singh Bedi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Aamer Sohail. Indian cricketers, who were also part of their last World Cup winning campaign back in 2011, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, and Ashish Nehra will also be a part of the function.
